Description

Shumway Lake offers a peaceful setting for both dragon boating and kayaking. Dragon boating involves a group of people paddling a long boat decorated with a dragon’s head and tail. This is ideal for group fun and teamwork. The lake’s calm waters provide perfect conditions for both recreational and competitive paddling. Kayaking offers a way to explore the lake by paddling a small boat individually. All equipment is provided, and professional coaches are on site to provide guidance and safety.

We will have a barbecue lunch at Shumway Lake. There will be beef, chicken, and veggie burgers, as well as halal chicken hot dogs.

Terms and Conditions

Terms & Conditions

Current Student Status

LEAP Activities are only for current students. Graduates/alumni/past students are not eligible to participate. If you are not able to prove that you are a current student, your ticket will be cancelled, and no refund will be issued. TRU provides LEAP with a list of students who are currently enrolled in classes. If your name is not on the list, you are not eligible.

Individual Tickets – One Per Student

Students must book their own tickets. You cannot book for anyone else. Any duplicate bookings will be cancelled, and no refund will be issued.

Payment

Payment must be made online before your ticket is secured. The ticket will be confirmed once payment is made and you have signed the waiver.

Tickets are Non-Refundable and Non-Changeable

Please ensure that you will be able to attend before booking a ticket. No refunds will be issued if you cancel your ticket. You cannot transfer your ticket to anyone else.

Cancellation Policy

If you will not be able to attend a LEAP event after booking a ticket, please let us know as soon as possible so we can fill your spot with another student. If you cancel at least 3 days prior to the activity, we should have time to fill your spot. No refund will be given, and no penalty will be charged.

Late Cancellation Penalty

If you cancel less than 3 days prior to an activity, a penalty of $20 will be issued. Your account will be suspended. You will not be able to participate in any LEAP activities until you pay the penalty.

No-Show Penalty

If you cancel less than 24 hours before the activity or do not show up at the designated time and place, a no-show penalty of $30 will be issued. Your account will be suspended. You will not be able to participate in any LEAP activities until you pay the penalty.

Waivers

For legal reasons, it is necessary to fill out waivers for every activity. The waivers for LEAP (coordinated by Interactive Adventures) must be completed online in order to confirm your ticket. Activity providers require their own waivers to be filled out as well. Come to the LEAP desk during office hours if you need assistance.
View an example waiver

Each activity involves a level of risk. Accidents can happen. The waiver acknowledges that you are aware that there are risks, choose to accept the risk, and will not hold the coordinator, activity providers, or the university liable.

Please take time to review, understand, and sign the waiver(s). You must be at least 19 years of age to participate.

Commitment Fee versus Actual Cost

The price that students pay for a LEAP activity is heavily subsidized. The actual cost including transportation is often at least double or triple the price that students pay.

The student price is a commitment fee. It does not cover the actual costs of the activity. If a student books a trip and cancels or does not show up, LEAP must still pay the actual cost even if nobody uses the ticket or the seat on the bus. This is why we have a strict cancellation policy. Penalties for late cancellations and no shows do not cover the actual cost but will hopefully encourage students to show respect when booking or cancelling tickets.

Insurance

Insurance is required in order to participate. You must have current valid insurance (MSP or GuardME) or you will not be allowed on an activity. It is your responsibility to provide this information on your account profile. Tickets will not be refunded if you fail to prove that you have appropriate medical insurance.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

The LEAP program is designed to involve students. All participants are expected to help ensure that each experience is a positive one. If there is an issue, please bring it to the attention of a LEAP leader. There will always be things that we are not able to control such as traffic and the weather. However, if you have suggestions that you or the group can do to make the experience better, please share your thoughts.

It is appreciated when participants are willing to help with tasks that need to be done such as loading supplies, setting up, and cleaning up. This is a shared responsibility. Students are expected to be helpful and considerate.

Participants all share the responsibility of shaping the activities. A positive attitude and active involvement will contribute to activities going smoothly and enjoyably.

Safety

Students are expected to behave safely at all times. Be aware of your surroundings, watch for hazardous situations, and do not take unnecessary risks. Students must listen to the LEAP leaders. If students are being unsafe or fail to listen to the LEAP leaders their account may be suspended indefinitely and could be banned from future LEAP activities.

Respect

Students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at all times. Harassment, abuse, and illegal activity will not be tolerated.

Be Prepared

Participants are responsible for themselves. You are expected to show up on time at meeting locations. Bring appropriate clothing. Bring food and water. Bring any medicine or supplies that you may need.

Read the itinerary, look at a map, and research the activity. LEAP leaders are here to provide opportunities to participate in activities, events, and excursions. It is up to you to get to know what to expect and decide how you would like to spend your time within the planned itinerary.

Travel Time and Distance

Canada is a large country. Be prepared to spend many hours on a bus to get to your destination.

Itinerary Changes

From time to time there will be circumstances that will cause changes to an itinerary. The LEAP team will do our best to adapt and deal with the circumstances. Students are expected to be understanding, able to adapt and adjust to any changes that occur.

Be on Time

The LEAP team will try to stick with the planned itinerary as closely as possible. Students are expected to be punctual. Please arrive early to ensure that we are on time. The bus will not wait for someone who is late. If the student misses a bus, it will be their responsibility to find their own way home. Taxis can be very expensive, so make sure you don’t get left behind.
